It is very telling how most auto manufacturers move away from their products as soon as they are driven off of the lot with their new owners. The exception, of course, is the ones who have a certified pre-owned division that can recapture brand loyalists with shallow pockets. Maybe the depth of the pockets is the reason that Porsche has [[Continue reading]]

It is very telling how most auto manufacturers move away from their products as soon as they are driven off of the lot with their new owners. The exception, of course, is the ones who have a certified pre-owned division that can recapture brand loyalists with shallow pockets. Maybe the depth of the pockets is the reason that Porsche has such an affinity for celebrating its owners.

Porsche- Celebrating 60 Years of Passion in America is a new site where there is a bevy of beautiful videos & photographs, interesting historical facts and Porsche Family Stories from enthusiast owners like Jerry Seinfeld.

In 1948, the first Porsche was built in Germany and the automotive world was changed forever. Two years later, thanks to the foresight of Ferry Porsche and Max Hoffman, the first two Porsches arrived in New York City. Today, America’s passion for Porsche is deeper than ever, and to celebrate 60 years of Porsche in the U.S., PCNA is welcoming owners, fans and enthusiasts to tell their Porsche stories, and even help us locate the oldest Porsche sports cars in America.

From the site:
“The Porsche brand was established in Germany in 1948. In 1950, New York City businessman Max Hoffman introduced the Porsche 356 to America, sparking a love affair that has lasted for six decades. Today, America’s passion for Porsche is deeper than ever, and our Family Tree sports strong new branches. To help us celebrate 60 years of Porsche in America, we’re inviting owners, fans and enthusiasts to tell their Porsche stories on our Porsche Family Tree. We’re also looking for the oldest Porsche sports cars in the U.S. in the My Porsche Classic Search.”

Once you jump in, consider the boring part of your day to be over. Some of the featured content includes:

My Porsche Classic Search

They are on the search for the oldest Porsche vehicles sold in America! If you own and can officially verify the retail age of your Porsche, you are invited to enter your car in one of the categories that include the oldest 356, 911, 912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayenne, Carrera GT and Cayman. Participants receive a badge from the Porsche Museum and the top 12 models may be photographed and included in the American exhibit at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

Porsche Passion Contest

Win one of three trips to the Porsche Sport Driving School (with a guest) by entering your favorite Porsche story.

Porsche History

An interactive timeline with photos of founders, cars and innovations, this section will keep you engaged if you love Porsche and want to learn even more!

Porsche Family Stories

The Porsche legend is filled with larger than life stories. Thrilling race wins. Shattered records. Technological feats. Yet some of the favorite stories come from the mouths of owners and enthusiasts. Intimate tales of passion offer a glimpse into the ties that bind all Porsche owners. This is your opportunity to look beneath the sheet metal and statistics and see the heart and soul of Porsche.

Almost every part of the site is interactive: user can submit stories, photos and even video. This project will just increase the rich history of 60 years of Porsche Passion in America.

One of the featured videos by designer Freeman Thomas discussing the animated design of Porsche:

I thought I would do a brief post of my Fiesta Movement application that I did. I didn't win. It was my first video and press releases sent during judging confirmed another reason why I would never win: I am OLD. This is a young people's car that will be paid for by...ahem...us parents.

This week I will get to [[Continue reading]]

I thought I would do a brief post of my Fiesta Movement application that I did. I didn’t win. It was my first video and press releases sent during judging confirmed another reason why I would never win: I am OLD. This is a young people’s car that will be paid for by…ahem…us parents.

This week I will get to be part of the press that drives the first US edition Fiesta as it will be sold and I am excited. I loved the European edition because it was tight like my Z3 Coupe, was comfortable and even roomy enough to fit Jeff Glucker from Hoonieverse in the back seat of Fiesta Agent Jonathan’s Fiesta on a mini road trip to Los Angeles to see Born in Baja: Making of the the Raptor-R film premiere. (Jeff is not a small man, ladies. He is married. I just know how much beer he can consume.) The film was not R-rated and it showed on SpeedTV. R means RAWR, in this case.

It will be interesting to try the new Sync in the Fiesta with my BlackBerry (Twitter by voice is like MacSpeech with extra sauce, hold the iPhone), experience the automatic dual clutch (I hear it is slushy), see if the corporate Ford vents from Europe stayed in this version because they rocked and if they covered the back of the flip-down back seat with carpet or if I would scratch a Craigslist free conquest on bare metal like I would in the Euro edition.

During my coy introduction to the US Fiesta, I will be in San Francisco with real journalists and will be doing my MingleMediaTV show live with a special guest! Jack Baruth from SpeedSportLive will be joining me as a virgin Fiesta driver. Okay, he will have driven it that afternoon for the first time so he will have one more notch on his belt. Should be a fun discussion! Join us at 9PM EST at for the MissMotorMouth on MingleMediaTV Show!

Without further adieu, I present you with the MissMotorMouth Empire Fiesta Movement video application. (Laugh all you want. I had fun making it.)

This is going to be a really quick post because #carchat starts on 10 minutes and I just need to get this off of my proverbial chest:

This week I was given a copy of the DVD of Season 10 of Top Gear by the US company assisting the BBC America division with promoting the show.

I love Top Gear. I love Jeremy Clarkson although he would probably shred me to bits and spit me out like a bit of pip left in his martini olive. I love cars. I love talking to people about cars. I tend to be enthusiastic when not grumpy. Hence, free DVD.

But with all of the recent debate about sponsored posts in social media:

If you do not know what Top Gear is and you do not like cars, it is not for you so don’t go getting all upset that there is a giveaway you do not care about.

The Top Gear show is produced by the BBC and their opinions are expressly their own so if you do not agree with it then tough. I can only attest to the fact that you might laugh a bit at some parts of the DVD.

In the past year I have received some freebies from companies and I will, for the sake of being transparent, reveal them now:

1 backpack from Sirius Radio received at an OEM event which I gave to my neighbor who couldn’t afford a new backpack for the school year.

1 messenger bag, again Sirius Radio, but with Ford SYNC which I donated because it had a feature that rejected contents forcing it to dump out unless empty.

1 eBay Motors baseball cap at the Concorso Italiano (a consumer event- everyone got them- I am not special).

A Ford Flex magnetic name badge with Miss Motor Mouth printed on it. (I do have a real name but it is cute).

A hacky sack, Frisbee and a blue oval patch at a Ford Fiesta consumer meet up at a tuner shop.

1 Top Gear Season 10 DVD which I received because I love Top Gear and talk about it a lot and just generally get enthusiastic about the show that I could watch 24/7.

This was not a paid advertisement but I will watch Season 10 for free so sue me. If every one is nice I will host a nice contest soo so you can see it too.

Yeh- you heard the calling in the title and how it spoke to something deep inside: you have often thought of how you would make a great automotive journalist? Details on how to break in after you read my wee monologue:

Here is the deal: my career to date was accidental and a dream but I do get the heart of the automotive industry and the enthusiasts. I make no bones about who I am, my story and how I got here.

Next week I am honored to be a panelist at BlogWorld and, after compassionate discussions with Dan Gray, aka @mpgomatic, he put together a topic near and dear to, not only my heart, but other online writers about breaking the gray-lady vein of tradition and how, as citizen/enthusiast/geeks, we can gain credibility. Co-panelists also include Scott Monty of Ford, Muhammed Saleem and Joe Neuberger.

Here is the gist of all of this:

If you are an enthusiast of cars, motorcycles, ATV’s (and that does include those who hate all of the aforementioned and just want nothing that rolls with a motor and just want to write about how you detest them all) and you think that you can put your heart into conveying a message in 300-500 words in the vein of a “new school” automotive journalist, please submit your entry to michelle at missmotormouth dot com and the 2 best entries who can be in Los Angeles at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles by 2PM Friday, September 19, 2008, will be selected to ride to BlogWorld Expo in Las Vegas with me, with complimentary admission to BlogWorld, lunch to and fro Vegas (and maybe a little dinner & drinks if I find you as fascinating as my favorite upstart Andy Mrozwinski) and a ride back to Los Angeles ~ all round trip in a new GM White Diamond Acadia (yeeeah! We’ll be ridin’ like gangstas!) which I will be driving to review.

The only thing that you have to provide is your own hotel room but hey!- its Vegas- what will cost you is your cheap Vegas room and losing at the tables! (Oh and any medical care if you should need that. I can’t possibly pay for that.)

Judging of potential winners is being done by myself and 2 uber-secret people who can make or break whether you ever get cars to review in your new future career and the deadline is 11:59 PM, PST, Wednesday, September 17, 2008.

The winning writer’s will get their blogs published on Mota.net, the site where I get to edit some amazing writers and contribute to with my own efforts and give full props to giving me my start in my accidental career and, I guess you could say that I gave birth to their blog.

Start your brains-a-whirling! This contest opens now!

XOO,M
